Using Counting Ourselves: Wellington Event

  • Newtown Community Centre Columbo & Rintoul Street Newtown New Zealand (map)

The 2025 Counting Ourselves report and Māori fact sheet have just been released, and we’re holding a community event to talk about using Counting Ourselves.

The report contains compelling evidence about new and persistent challenges for our communities, because 2,631 survey respondents told us their stories and gave us their statistics. This data is important in all kinds of ways, and in particular for the purpose of advocacy. Communities can use this data to push for change.

With this purpose in mind, we decided to collaborate with the research team to discuss ways that our communities can do just that. So please join us at the Wellington event to:

  • Hear lead researchers Dr Jaimie Veale and Jack Byrne talk briefly about the survey findings, and;

  • Ask any questions you have for the researchers, and;

  • Hear how Gender Minorities Aotearoa used the 2019 report to push for change, and;

  • Hear about a new report on disabled trans people in Aotearoa, To Be Ourselves, which was developed in collaboration with, and uses data from, Counting Ourselves, and;

  • Share your ideas or plans for using this research to push for change, or improve trans people’s lives.

We will provide light refreshments.
